Matt Kaufman

Matt Kaufman has been a columnist for Boundless since the site’s founding in 1998, and did a stint as editor in 2002-2003. He’s also a former staffer and current contributing editor for Focus on the Family Citizen magazine. Matt is a freelance writer/editor who spent some years in Colorado, but gave up the mountains for the cornfields: He now lives in his hometown of Urbana, home of the University of Illinois. His house is a five minute drive from the one where he grew up, and he enjoys daily walks around the park where he used to play baseball.

‘The Opposite of Hypocrisy’

It’s a tale of a pastor who’s said to be indulging in homosexuality even as he denounces it. And it’s said to be a tale of outrageous hypocrisy. And actually, it is a tale of outrageous hypocrisy. But not chiefly — if at all — on the part of the past …

Toy Stories

I just saw the latest Toy Story. No details, but a general comment: This is the rare series that’s just as enjoyable even on the third installment as it was in the first two, and if anything, more moving. Beyond their wonderful cleverness (I’d love to …

When Lightning Strikes

Do Modest Men Get a Raw Deal?

You know you gotta read a story with a headline like “Why Modest Men Get the Brush-Off from Women.” And not only from women, says the Daily Mail: Employers, too. The gist of it is that modest men are considered “too weak” by women and employers alike. …

‘How Church Shopping Is Polarizing the Country’

That’s the title of a recent column on CNN’s Website. I think the title’s somewhat misleading, but we’ll get to that in a moment. First, we’ll get to the substance of the column. “In the ’60s, those showing up in church on Sunday might have represented …

Are You a Creature of Habit?

I just got back from my first weekend trip in a long time, visiting old friends and new family (my cousin’s twins, whose faces I just gotta share with the world): I had a great time, but it was an adjustment. I’m a creature of habit for the most part. …

Outreach or Pandering?

When I was Boundless editor about eight years ago, my favorite compliment we got came from a secular, liberal-leaning site. They praised us for running thoughtful articles for a young audience instead of making embarrassing efforts to sound young, as m …
