Matt Kaufman

Matt Kaufman has been a columnist for Boundless since the site’s founding in 1998, and did a stint as editor in 2002-2003. He’s also a former staffer and current contributing editor for Focus on the Family Citizen magazine. Matt is a freelance writer/editor who spent some years in Colorado, but gave up the mountains for the cornfields: He now lives in his hometown of Urbana, home of the University of Illinois. His house is a five minute drive from the one where he grew up, and he enjoys daily walks around the park where he used to play baseball.

What Does Your Mom Do for …

…people besides her family? Here’s why the question’s on my mind. A couple days ago I had the pleasure of attending a retirement luncheon for my mother, who’s been a secretary (officially, “office support specialist,” but she has no use for the title …

Another Shade of Green

“Climate change is the totalitarian’s dream come true. It offers a rationale for government intrusion into every aspect of life for every person on Earth.” Strong words, from a speaker at the Family Research Council on Earth Day last week. But if anyon …

Who Needs a Pick-Me-Up?

I just got back from a luncheon with our local college football booster’s club. We had two speakers, and they were a real study in contrasts. First up was the football coach himself, who’s mired in a nightmarish losing streak (nine straight games again …

A Lifesaver’s Legacy

This seems to be my week for obituaries. A few days ago I did one for John T. Elson, the journalist of “Is God Dead?” fame. Today it’s John Wild, the founder of ultrasound imaging technology. Wild always knew his work could save many lives: It’s …

You Don’t Appreciate “It” Till It’s Gone

Cryptic title, I know: “It” could mean so many things. In this case, “it” means your health. I was sick for a few days last week and ran through my usual cycle of attitudes. While I’m sick, I’m ticked off that the daily good health I take for my …
